Hospitals and healthcare systems are under greater
pressure than ever to improve patient care, increase
staff satisfaction, control or reduce costs, and meet
insurance and government regulations and live up to
industry watchdog best practices. To help meet these
demands, providers must continue to implement new technology
as part of the solutions or risk obsolescence.
However there is a mind-boggling array of technology
available today, and it is continuously increasing,
making it nearly impossible to objectively and accurately
evaluate which solution is the best fit for a given
situation. Some of this new technology includes medical
equipment, computers, internet services, drug and supply
material handling equipment, electronic information
flow and storage, and patient and asset tracking just
to name a few.
For example, in evaluating procedures for increasing
the accuracy and timeliness of delivering medication
from the hospital pharmacy to the patient, the model
below could be utilized to study a variety of different
technology solutions until the most effective one is
found, before investing capital in equipment or resources.
